BMW has explored enclosed two-wheelers since the early 2000s, when it introduced the C1. After years of relatively little attention, the concept returned to the spotlight with BMW’s Vision CE. Now, German urban mobility company XYTE Mobility GmbH is pursuing a similar idea with a vehicle that has already moved beyond the concept stage.

Founded by automotive industry veteran Dr. Wolfgang Ziebart, XYTE Mobility is developing compact electric vehicles intended to make personal transportation cleaner, quieter and safer. The XYTE One is its first major example of that approach.

The most distinctive feature is the three-wheel chassis combined with a protective safety cell. According to XYTE, the configuration provides car-like protection while retaining the accessibility of a scooter. In markets where the regulations permit it, the vehicle can be operated without a helmet using a conventional European Class B driving license.

Power comes from an electric motor producing 19 kW (25 hp) of peak power and 55 Nm of maximum torque. Top speed is limited to approximately 99 km/h. A 7.6-kWh battery delivers up to 112 km of range under the WMTC testing standard. With a compatible charger, charging from 20% to 80% takes slightly more than two hours.

Practicality is another focus. The One offers a 72-liter trunk, providing useful storage for everyday errands, while a reverse gear makes low-speed maneuvering easier. The 630-mm seat height and short turning radius are intended to make the vehicle more approachable in urban environments.

Its chassis equipment includes three-channel ABS with 240-mm discs on all three wheels, double-wishbone suspension and twin vertical shocks. The vehicle weighs 206 kg.

Inside, a 10-inch touchscreen is paired with LTE connectivity and a mobile application offering remote navigation and monitoring functions. Full-LED lighting completes the equipment package.

The XYTE One made its official debut at IAA Mobility in Munich on September 8. For now, availability is limited to selected European cities, including Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Milan, Madrid and Munich.
