Help the printing industry
Willis Carrier designed the first modern air-conditioning system to solve a production problem at the Sackett & Wilhelms printing plant in Brooklyn, New York, launching an industry that would fundamentally improve the way we live, work and play.
Carrier Around the World
Almost from the start, air conditioning became an international phenomenon, with important installations of equipment designed by Willis Carrier reaching from North America to Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America. In 1931, the M.V. Victoria, a 13,400-ton Italian motorship designed to run from Italy to Egypt, became the first vessel to make its maiden voyage equipped with Carrier air conditioning. In 1946,“the World’s First Air-Conditioned City Bus” using Carrier's system was toured in San Antonio, Texas. In 1949, Pan American Airways was the world's first airliner using the air conditioning system that was specificly designed by Carrier to be used with commercial plane.
In 1993, Carrier designed and installed the Sistine Chapel's first air conditioning system to accommodate a maximum load of 700 simultaneous visitors. Later in the fall of 2014, Carrier installed an innovative heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) solution at the Sistine Chapel, specially developed to help preserve Michelangelo’s masterpieces against deterioration caused by an increasing number of visitors.
Coolling down the Olympic
In 2008, CARRIER Corp. has supplied nearly 70% percent of all the air-conditioning, ventilating and heating contracts for the Olympic Games venues in Beijing.
