Unlike a traditional air conditioner, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus relies on the Peltier effect, a thermoelectric process that creates heating or cooling when electricity passes between two different conductors. The device is worn around the neck and positioned against the upper back, where it can influence skin temperature and create a cooling or warming sensation without changing the body’s core temperature.

Sony designed the device for situations where personal comfort can be difficult to maintain, including crowded public transportation, outdoor work in hot weather, or offices with overly aggressive air conditioning. It may also appeal to users who are sensitive to temperature fluctuations or experience heat discomfort frequently.

According to Sony, the new model improves cooling performance by an additional 2°C compared to the previous 2025 version. Earlier generations of the Reon Pocket line were said to create a perceived cooling effect of up to 13°C or a warming effect of around 8°C on the skin surface.

The company has also redesigned the neckband for a more stable fit, helping maintain better contact with the skin for improved thermal transfer. The upward-facing airflow vent is now adjustable as well, allowing the device to work more effectively with different clothing styles, including high-collar jackets or office attire.

Battery performance has also improved. The Reon Pocket Pro Plus can operate for around 5.5 hours at maximum cooling power from a full two-hour charge, while lower settings can extend runtime up to 34 hours. Sony additionally includes an ambient temperature and humidity sensor that can attach to a bag and automatically adjust the device based on surrounding conditions.

Users can control the system either through onboard buttons or a companion mobile app. While wearable climate-control gadgets remain a relatively experimental product category, Sony continues refining the concept with hardware designed to make personal temperature management more practical in everyday environments.
