As more people work from tablets, mini PCs, smartphones, and other portable devices, demand has grown for compact input solutions that deliver a full mechanical typing experience. The Pocket Reform Standalone Keyboard addresses this need by adapting the built-in keyboard from the Pocket Reform into a standalone peripheral compatible with a wide range of devices.

The keyboard features a 60-key ortholinear layout, arranging every key in a straight grid instead of the staggered rows found on conventional keyboards. According to MNT Research, this configuration reduces finger travel while maintaining a compact footprint of just 20.5 × 13 cm, making it suitable for small desks, couches, or mobile workspaces.
Buyers can choose from three Kailh Choc mechanical switch options. Choc Red Pro provides a smooth linear keystroke, Choc Brown offers tactile feedback with quieter operation, and Choc White delivers a distinct click. The laser-engraved ABS and polyurethane keycaps allow the RGB backlighting to shine through clearly.

A built-in 15 mm optical trackball is one of the keyboard's defining features. Positioned beneath the spacebar, it is surrounded by four mechanical buttons that support left, right, and middle mouse clicks as well as scrolling. This integrated pointing device reduces the need to carry a separate mouse when working in confined spaces.
The keyboard also includes a 128 × 64-pixel OLED display for viewing system settings managed by its RP2040 microcontroller. Meanwhile, 64 individually addressable RGB LEDs allow users to customize lighting effects or reduce brightness according to their preferences.
Its enclosure combines a lightweight nylon lower shell manufactured using HP Multi Jet Fusion technology with a bead-blasted, black-anodized aluminum top plate, balancing portability with the rigidity needed for comfortable typing.

The Pocket Reform Standalone Keyboard is built as fully open hardware. PCB schematics, firmware, and mechanical design files are publicly available, allowing users to repair, modify, or customize the device. Connectivity is handled through a USB-C port that provides both power and data while supporting the standard USB HID protocol, making the keyboard compatible with computers, tablets, and smartphones. The result is a compact mechanical keyboard designed for users seeking greater flexibility without sacrificing typing quality.
