HoverAir X1: Convenient flying action camera without remote control

11-10-2024

(worldkings.org) Your phone likely has a great camera, but unless it’s a top-tier model, it probably won’t record 8K video or capture dramatic aerial shots while you’re hiking, biking, or diving. For that, a selfie drone might be necessary. However, before investing in an expensive and fragile drone that requires mastering controllers and joysticks, HOVERAir has developed a consumer-friendly alternative—a "flying action camera."

The HOVERAir X1 PROMAX is designed to be compact, foldable, and durable, yet it still includes an advanced flying system and an 8K camera, outperforming most drones in its size range. It responds to voice commands, can reach speeds of 60 km/h (37.2 mph), shoot 120fps slow-motion videos, and even operate in sub-zero temperatures, making it versatile for a range of activities like skiing or snowboarding. Additionally, its low price and small size make it compliant with FAA regulations, so it's accessible for anyone to use.

HOVERAir first gained recognition years ago with their folding selfie drones, and they’ve continued to innovate. The new X1 PRO and X1 PROMAX models can record in 4K and 8K respectively, weigh under 250 grams (meeting FAA guidelines), and have various shooting modes like slow motion and vertical videos for social media. The PROMAX has a slightly better camera with a wider field of view and vision-based sensors for collision detection. While the X1 PRO is ideal for capturing hands-free footage of sports or landscapes, the PROMAX is suited for more advanced users, such as professionals and content creators, who need superior photo and video quality.

The foldable design remains a key feature of both drones. They open like a book, with a camera and battery in the center, and propellers protected by a durable frame. Both models can be operated via voice commands or with HOVERAir's optional Beacon, a device with tracking sensors and a screen to view footage in real time. Although traditional remotes aren’t needed, the Beacon can transform into one, offering motion control and haptic feedback, with the option to attach a smartphone for a more immersive experience. For those preferring automated flight modes, both drones offer options like Hover, Orbit, and Follow, making it easy to capture dynamic moments. HOVERAir also plans to release more features via software updates.

The camera quality of the X1 PRO and PROMAX enhances their appeal. The X1 PRO’s wide-angle lens offers a 104° field of view, great for capturing broad landscapes. It shoots in 1080p at 120fps for high-quality slow-motion footage. The PROMAX model goes further with 8K resolution, 4K@120fps slow-motion, and a wider 107° FoV, allowing for even more stunning cinematic shots. It also includes additional sensors for collision detection, which is helpful when flying in challenging environments.
