Casio F-B100W updates a classic digital watch with bluetooth and step tracking

(worldkings.org) The Casio F-91W has remained one of the most recognizable digital watches of its generation, largely because it never tried to be anything more than a simple, dependable timepiece. The F-B100W keeps that familiar rectangular formula but adds a carefully selected set of connected features, including Bluetooth, step counting and phone finding, creating a modern digital watch without turning it into a full smartwatch.

The F-B100W measures 41.9 × 38.1 × 8.8 mm and weighs 26 g, keeping its physical specifications close to the classic design. It retains an amber LED backlight with adjustable illumination, water resistance, an hourly time signal and five daily alarm options.

Casio has also revised the strap. Made from bio-based plastic, it incorporates ventilation slits intended to improve comfort during extended wear. Power comes from a conventional watch battery rather than a rechargeable cell, with an expected life of almost two years.

Bluetooth is the most significant addition. When paired with a phone, the watch can automatically synchronize the time, adjust alarms and manage its dual-time display. A phone-finder function adds another practical feature without requiring the watch to become dependent on a large collection of smartphone-style applications.

The F-B100W also introduces a step counter and lap split-time function. Activity data can be synchronized with a companion phone app, allowing users to set goals and monitor progress. The watch can record up to 200 laps, while activity information can also be viewed directly on its display.

For people who spend long periods sitting at a desk, an inactivity alert can produce both an audible beep and an on-screen notification. The function is optional and can be disabled when it is not needed.

What the F-B100W does not include is equally important. There is no heart-rate monitor, sleep analysis or blood-pressure monitoring. Rather than competing with feature-heavy smartwatches, Casio has kept the focus on traditional timekeeping with a limited selection of useful digital functions.

The watch is available in three variants: 1AJF, 1BJF and 3AJF. The designs include black cases paired with positive LCD displays and blue, red or yellow retro accents, as well as an all-black version with a negative display and gray text.

The result is a hybrid that adds just enough connectivity and activity tracking to a classic digital watch while leaving its uncomplicated character largely intact.
