The K1 is based on the company’s earlier K-Tent design, which combines elements of safari tents, A-frame cabins, and elevated treehouse-style architecture. Originally introduced as a portable canvas structure connected to Kudhva’s off-grid resort on the North Cornish coast, the design is now being adapted for a planned series of American glamping destinations.

Unlike conventional camping tents, the K1 uses a heavy-duty tubular aluminum frame paired with thick canvas construction. The structure is designed to withstand winds of up to 129 km/h while still remaining transportable and relatively quick to assemble. According to the developers, two people can set up the structure in under an hour.

The expansion into the United States is being led by startup British American Camping (BAC), founded by Murphy Talmadge. Inspired by outdoor hospitality experiences in the UK, Talmadge aimed to introduce a similar blend of nature-focused travel and carefully designed accommodations to American destinations.

BAC is working alongside Kudhva and design studio New British Design to launch the K1 at multiple sites across Georgia. Planned locations include Yellow River, West Point Lake, and Oculmogee, each selected for their natural landscapes ranging from forests and rivers to lakeshores and wetlands.
Before the wider rollout, the companies established a temporary demonstration site on Georgia’s Jekyll Island. Known for its coastal forests, driftwood beaches, and historic atmosphere, the island provided a fitting backdrop for the elevated canvas structures, whose exposed frame design visually blends with the surrounding landscape.

The arrival of the K1 comes during a period of rapid expansion for the glamping industry in the United States. According to the North American Glamping Report, the sector grew by approximately 300% over the previous decade. Research firm Grand View Research estimated the US glamping market reached nearly US$1 billion in 2025, with further growth expected in the coming years.
BAC officially introduced the K1 during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, where the structure attracted significant attention and received the ICFF Award in the Outdoor category. The recognition highlights growing interest in outdoor accommodations that combine architecture, mobility, and hospitality-focused design.
