For a luxury hotel, cuisine is one of the most natural ways to connect with guests and the wider community. To commemorate three decades of hospitality, Gran Meliá Jakarta transformed a signature dish into a large-scale culinary celebration, turning food into a shared experience that brought people together.
The hotel selected rendang as the centerpiece of the record because it is widely recognized as one of Indonesia's most beloved dishes and a source of national pride. Renowned both domestically and internationally, rendang has become an enduring symbol of Indonesian cuisine.
The record-setting creation featured rendang wrapped in puff pastry, inspired by the classic Wellington style of preparation. This innovative interpretation combined the rich flavors of traditional Indonesian rendang with a well-known international culinary technique, creating a distinctive fusion dish.
Measuring 31.5 meters in length, the continuous Rendang Wellington arrangement earned official recognition from MURI (Indonesian World Records Museum) as the longest Rendang Wellington arrangement. The achievement not only celebrated Gran Meliá Jakarta's 30-year journey but also highlighted the meeting point between international luxury hospitality and Indonesia's rich culinary heritage through an imaginative presentation of one of the nation's most iconic dishes.
