The initiative was carried out as part of the 2026 simultaneous greening program across the Kodam VI/Mulawarman region under the theme “Keep Planting, Unite with Nature, Spread Positive Energy.” The campaign represented a major environmental conservation effort aimed at restoring forest ecosystems in Kalimantan.

As part of the program, organizers conducted the planting of one million forest plants consisting of various species, including meranti, mahogany, sengon, agarwood, hardwood trees, and fruit-bearing plants. One of the key species highlighted in the initiative was the ulin tree, an endemic Indonesian species commonly found in Sumatra and Kalimantan as well as other parts of Southeast Asia.

The ulin tree (Eusideroxylon zwageri), also known as ironwood, is highly valued for its exceptional strength and durability. It is considered one of the most important endemic tree species in Indonesia’s tropical forest ecosystem.

According to the verified data, a total of 10,100 ulin tree seedlings were planted across several locations. This included 600 seedlings in Balikpapan, 5,500 seedlings in the Samarinda region, and 4,000 seedlings in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan. The planting activities covered a total land area of 144.5 hectares and involved 1,019 participants.

The organizers stated that the initiative aimed to support environmental preservation, forest rehabilitation, and the long-term sustainability of Kalimantan’s ecosystem. MURI noted that the achievement reflected the growing importance of reforestation and endemic tree conservation efforts in addressing environmental challenges and protecting natural resources in Indonesia.
