[WORLDKINGS] World Tops Academy – Top 5 longest tunnels in the world

(WorldKings.org) Tunnels are some of the most amazing displays of engineering. They are laid through mountains and even water to meet the needs of highways and roads and they are definitely not the place for a car to break down. This is top 5 longest tunnels in the world.

1. Gotthard Base Tunnel, Switzerland - 57.1 Km

Switzerland’s Gotthard Base Tunnel is the longest tunnel in the world. 2. Seikan, Japan - 53.9 Km

Seikan railway tunnel passes beneath the Tsugaru Strait and connects the Aomori Prefecture on Honshu Island and the Hokkaido Island. With its track located 140 meters (459 ft) below the seabed, the Seikan tunnel is the world’s deepest and longest railway tunnel.

3. Channel Tunnel, England / France – 50.5 Km

The Channel Tunnel, one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken in the world, is a rail tunnel linking Folkestone in the United Kingdom, with Coquelles in northern France.
