City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a world-class public research university located in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1984 as City Polytechnic of Hong Kong and became a fully accredited university in 1994. Currently, CityU is one of the top 100 universities in the world.
City University of Hong Kong occupies an urban campus located in Kowloon. The official address is Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon. Administratively, it is part of Sham Shui Po District. The main campus is connected to Festival Walk shopping centre and Kowloon Tong station, which serves the East Rail line and Kwun Tong line of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. It is also adjacent to Shek Kip Mei Park and Nam Shan Estate. The main campus covers around 15.6 ha (39 acres).
CityU endeavours to deliver high-quality professional education by offering integrated interdisciplinary cutting-edge programmes to transform students into creative problem-solvers, effective communicators and future leaders in order to help society deal with change constructively and effectively. A wide spectrum of undergraduate, taught and research postgraduate programmes are offered under the Colleges and Schools. The university has nine main schools offering courses in business, science, engineering, liberal arts and social sciences, law, and veterinary medicine, along with Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, CityU Shenzhen Research Institute, and Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study.
CityU has established itself as one of the most innovative universities in Asia, pioneering research in diverse fields that are of high relevance on pressing issues, in particular the five overarching research themes, i.e. One Health, Digital Society, Smart City, Matter and Brain. Apart from Colleges and Schools, CityU has established Research Institutes, Centres and Laboratories with the purposes of advancing scholarly activities through collaborative research, research dissemination or creative endeavours.
CityU was ranked 54th worldwide in the QS World University Rankings 2023 and 99th worldwide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023. Most young universities rankings placed CityU among the top 10 globally. CityU graduates ranked 89th worldwide in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022.
