(Worldkings.org) Unitec is New Zealand’s largest institute of technology offering a wide range of work-oriented programmes and short courses. It offers leading employment-focused education at its two campuses in Mt. Albert, and Waitakere.

Unitec Institute of Technology is situated in the city of Auckland, New Zealand and serves as the largest technology institute in the city as well as the country. The institute was started in 1976 as Carrington Technical Institute but later in 1987, it was renamed to Carrington Polytechnic. Finally, in 1994, the institute was called ‘Unitec Institute of Technology’. In 1999, the institute applied for University status but due to some issues, it remained as an Institute of Technology. Now, the academic institute is a part of the International Association of Universities.


The core campus of the institute is located at Mt Albert. It has several large academic buildings and departments. The institute has an additional campus in Henderson. The Institute is home to a large and diverse student body with over 16,800 students. In addition, Unitec Institute of Technology offers a variety of student services including a wide range of clubs and sports, a Student Council to connect students with campus staff and services, and three libraries on two existing campuses.

Students can choose from 70 programs including 14 master's degrees programs, 19 bachelors' degree programs, 17 postgraduate and graduate diplomas and certificates. Also, the institute maintains a Learning Centre that provides support to improve academic reading and writing. The institute is known for offering some popular programs in Engineering, Performing Arts, Commerce & Banking, Management, Media & Mass Communication, Vocational, Science, Nursing, Education, Paramedical, Arts and Hotel Management.


From cutting-edge research to industry-recognized study programmes, the institute is committed to excellence in learning and teaching. Staffs come from many different backgrounds and have a wide range of experience, knowledge and research interests. The Institute is home to students from many different countries and offers great all-rounded student support services such as study advice, cultural guidance or personal support and career guidance.

In addition, the institute has proudly graduated some of the known people who are now working in different areas of the world. Some of the prominent alumni include Sara Wiseman (actress), Chris Petrovski (Macedonian actor), Aupito Tofae Su'a William Sio (a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives), Rajeev Verma (Indian actor) and Jake Heenan (rugby union player).
