Top spectacular natural landmarks of the world (P.169) Kawaguchi: One of the Fujigoko

( Lake Kawaguchi is the most popular of the Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) in terms of tourists, and has the most developed tourist infrastructure.

Lake Kawaguchi is located in the town of Fujikawaguchiko in southern Yamanashi Prefecture near Mount Fuji, Japan. It is the second largest of the Fuji Five Lakes in terms of surface area and is located at the lowest elevation. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, which accounts for its relatively cool summers and frequently icy winters. It also has the longest shoreline of any of the Fuji Five Lakes.

The weather here is always pleasant and with the majestic view of Mount Fuji, reflected in the lake, Kawaguchi is a landscape that visitors cannot forget. The natural scenery changes with each season with its own beauty, so visitors can flexibly choose the time to visit each new shirt of the lake in each season.

Lake Kawaguchiko attracts especially many visitors in spring during cherry blossom season and in autumn when the fall foliage comes out in full force. From late June to mid-July, the lavender fields at Yagizaki Park and Oishi Park are the main draw. Unsurprisingly, the lake is popular with photographers––the observation deck at Tenjoyama Park and the middle of Kawaguchiko-Ohashi Bridge are favorite Mount Fuji photo spots––and is also a major hub for those looking to climb the sacred mountain during the summer months.

Also, the area surrounding Lake Kawaguchiko is well-developed in terms of tourist infrastructure, with many lakeside hotels, hot springs, windsurfing facilities, campsites, and excursion boats. This makes it a popular weekend destination, with many visitors partaking in outdoor activities such as sports fishing, hiking, yachting, and cycling.
