What Is Skillshare?
Skillshare is an online learning community based in the United States for people who want to learn from educational videos. The majority of courses focus on interaction rather than lecturing, with the primary goal of learning by completing a project. The main course categories include creative arts, design, entrepreneurship, lifestyle and technology.
At skillshare, you can experience learning from experts, professionals, and industry icons, who are excited to share their wisdom, experience and trusted techniques with you.
Get the experience of real creators from around the world.
Skillshare- The Progress Of Becoming The Leading Online Platform
Skillshare was founded in New York in 2010 by two veterans of the digital world, Michael Karnjanaprakorn and Malcolm Ong.
Skillshare launched 15 self-paced, online courses in August 2012, with students collaborating to complete a project. Then in October 2013, Skillshare collaborated with Levi's to launch the School of MakeOurMark, focusing on individual creativity with courses in photography, tattooing, and various forms of illustration. By November 2013, it hosted over 250 courses, and launched its School of Design. In March 2014, Skillshare moved to a membership model for $9.95 a month. Later that year, the company announced a new open platform, where anyone could be a course instructor, and a free membership option to watch a limited amount of class content each month. As of March 2019, Skillshare had over 27,000 premium classes and more than 2,000 free classes available. The platform has introduced the "Groups" feature that allows members to connect with other creators, share work, and take skills to the next level through engaging discussions and prompts.
Skillshare now Offers 35,000+ courses for over 8 million learners, and becomes one of the biggest online learning platform in the world.
Skillshare Learning Format
Skillshare's videos teach you skills to lead a creative life. It covers everything from creative hobbies to tips for running a creative online business. This site offers short videos, sometimes as part of a much longer series, where you learn and practice mostly hands-on skills. You get additional materials, such as PDF handouts, and sometimes community forums where you can upload examples of your work to get feedback from other learners.
One aspect of Skillshare that gets high appreciation is that it does have some very short courses or lessons within courses that you can complete as a one-off. For example, if you just want to practice drawing cacti for five minutes, Skillshare has videos that will indulge your creative cravings.
