30-07-2016

(Worldkings)A 32-foot-tall mechanical puppet of a Cornish coal miner is walking the streets of England for a 130-mile journey.

The Man Engine, created by Golden Tree Productions founder Will Coleman, is crossing the 120 miles of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site in England to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the region obtaining heritage status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

The gigantic puppet took its first public steps in Tavistock, Devon, and is expected to arrive in Cornwall Aug. 6.

"Our Cornish mining ancestors were international entrepreneurs, who propelled mining into a new industrial era on a worldwide scale. It wasn't an easy journey for anyone then, and in many ways, it is a difficult history," Councilor Julian German, chairman of the Cornish mining world heritage partnership, told The Guardian. "Special projects like the towering Man Engine show we still share this same gritty ambition and ingenuity with our ancestors."
