The traditional dance of Zapin is a combination of Malay culture with Arab and Persian influences, resulting in a dance with strong philosophical and religious values. It is distinguished by its rapid foot movements and synchronized hand motions, all performed to the music of the gambus.

Acting Governor of Riau Province, SF Hariyanto, expressed his pride in the event, which carried the theme "United in the Zapin Movement to Preserve Malay Culture." He expressed belief that the event demonstrates Riau's resilience despite being battered by the storms of modernity.
"Riau has chosen a different path. We opt to advance without being uprooted, to develop without abandoning our roots, and to build without compromising values," he said.
He believes that technological advancement should complement our ancestral legacy, not eclipse it. He views the Zapin dance as an expression of culture in terms of sport and emotion.
According to him, Zapin imparted a profound philosophy of life, emphasizing that togetherness is a far more crucial basis than self-assertion and that inner harmony is the only way to achieve true beauty.
Hariyanto said that while the world seems to be competing to display unfettered freedom, Riau Malay women stand tall, demonstrating that modesty is a powerful force. The Labuh Kekek kebaya, which embraces the bodies of the female dancers, demonstrates this.
"For the regional administration, this world record is not the final destination, but rather the beginning of a much larger and more lasting cultural movement. The number 6,000 represents more than just a statistic; it's a powerful statement that resonates across all of Indonesia, proclaiming the profound commitment of Riau to safeguarding its cultural legacy," he stated.
