(worldkings.org) Ormat Technologies, Inc. is an international company based in Reno, Nevada, United States. Ormat supplies alternative and renewable geothermal energy technology. The company has built over 190 power plants and installed over 3,200 MW. As of January 2021 it owns and operates 933 MW of geothermal and recovered energy-based power plants.

Ormat has supplied over 1000 turbochargers worldwide: North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. The company's products also include turbines, generators, and heat exchangers.

The company’s milestones:



1965: Ormat was established as Ormat Turbines Ltd. (later renamed Ormat Industries). 

1970s:Ormat expanded its technology and expertise in the  (RPU) sector, providing RPUs for clients requiring reliable power generation in remote operating conditions.

1982: Ormat developed the Solar Pond Power Plant – an experimental project to pilot the development of solar energy production.

1986: The firm designed and supplied geothermal power systems to the Kawerau Power Station in New Zealand. Since then, it has built 13 geothermal power plants in that country.

1989:The firm supplied geothermal equipment for the regional heating system at Sudurnes Iceland, utilizing the abundant local geothermal resources to provide heating for 20,000 people.



1990s:The firm decided not only to provide power generation equipment but also to own and operate alternative and renewable energy power stations.

1991: The firm, then Ormat Industries, became listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

1998: The firm started its first development the 50 MW Leyte Optimization project in the Philippines under a BOT for 10 years.

2006: Ormat entered Turkey, delivering our first geothermal power plant, the DORA 1, with a capacity of 7.4 MW. 

From 2006 through 2009:Ormat built and installed a series of REG power plants that convert waste heat from gas turbine compressors into electricity, delivering 53 MW of generating capacity.

2013: The world’s largest single binary geothermal power plant – the Ngatamariki in New Zealand – began commercial operations.  Ormat provided the engineering, procurement and construction for the 100 MW geothermal project that delivers sustainable energy to power 80,000 homes annually.



2018: Ormat announced that NIL 2, the third unit of the Sarulla geothermal power plant in North Sumatra, Indonesia, began commercial operation, bringing the three-facility complex to its full capacity of 330 MW.

2020: Ormat Announces Commercial Operation of Rabbit Hill Battery Energy Storage System Participating in Markets Run by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. This is the firm’s first Texas project.

2023:Ormat and Eastland Generation have signed an agreement to build and operate a 50-MW geothermal power plant in a proven resource area in New Zealand.
