Originally focused on neurotrophic factors and their regenerative capabilities, giving rise to its name, the company then branched out into the study of both cytokine and tyrosine kinase receptors, which gave rise to their first product, which is a VEGF-trap.

The company’s milestones:



1988: Regeneron is founded by Leonard S. Schleifer, MD, PhD, a young neurologist and assistant professor at Cornell University Medical College.

1990: Science magazine publishes Regeneron’s first paper, which becomes the most highly cited neurobiology paper of the year.

1993: Regeneron acquires space for a drug manufacturing facility in Rensselaer, NY, years before having an FDA-approved medicine.

2003: Regeneron’s first paper on VelociGene® is published, introducing the world to our proprietary Veloci technologies.

2006: Sarilumab, the company’s first fully human antibody, enters clinical development.



2007: A collaboration with Sanofi focuses on developing fully human antibodies using Regeneron’s  VelocImmune® technology platform.

2008: The FDA approves Regeneron’s first medicine, ARCALYST® (rilonacept) Injection.

2010: The company begins sponsorship of the BioBus, a mobile laboratory, to drive hands-on science education in underserved school districts.

2014: The Regeneron Genetics Center®, a new human genetics initiative, officially launches.

2015: The FDA approves PRALUENT® (alirocumab) Injection Regeneron’s fourth FDA-approved medicine and first FDA-approved fully human monoclonal antibody.



2019: Regeneron and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory unveil new dedicated laboratories for student science education. Society for Science announces Regeneron as new sponsor of the International Science and Engineering Fair. 

2022: Regeneron awarded the 2022 Prix Galien USA Best Biotechnology Product for Inmazeb®.
