(worldkings.org) Škoda Auto a.s, often shortened to Škoda, is a Czech automobile manufacturer established in 1925 as the successor to Laurin & Klement and headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.

Škoda Auto (and its predecessor Laurin & Klement) is the fifth-oldest company producing cars and has an unbroken history alongside Daimler, Opel, Peugeot, and Tatra.

Škoda automobiles are sold in over 100 countries. Škoda cars are now made in factories in the Czech Republic, China, India, and Slovakia. A smaller number of Škoda models are additionally manufactured in Solomonovo, Ukraine through local partners. Till 2020 also there was manufacturing in Öskemen, Kazakhstan.

  • 1925: Laurin & Klement, Škoda’s predecessor, was acquired by the Škoda Works, and operated henceforth under the brand Škoda Auto (Škoda).
  • 1926: The Mladá Boleslav car manufacturer was introduced under the new trade name ‘Škoda’ at the international motor show in Prague.
  • 1931: The Škoda 633 model became the most successful six-cylinder of the period.
  • 1933: Developing the central tube frame for the 420 Standard marked a milestone in chassis construction, laying the foundation for lower weight and, as a result, the higher fuel efficiency of future models.
  • 1946: The automobile works were restructured under the new name AZNP.
  • 1952: Škoda introduced the sedan 1200. One noteworthy innovation was the all-metal bodywork replacing the formerly used wood and metal combination. In Europe, the all-metal body only begins to be widely used at the end of the 1950s.

  • 1959: Škoda modernized the 440, 445, and 450 model series. The models were given new names – Octavia, Octavia Super, and Felicia.
  • 1965: Škoda off-roaders like the Trekka and Skopak were produced in New Zealand, Pakistan, and Turkey.
  • 1969: Škoda 100 was launched. This is the first model in the history of the company with more than one million pieces produced.
  • 1988: Škoda Favorit was launched on the market, recording sales success both in Czechoslovakia and abroad.
  • 1991: Škoda, automobilová a. s. commenced its activities and joins with VW, Audi, and Seat as the fourth brand of the Volkswagen concern.
  • 1998: For the first time, Škoda produced more than 400,000 vehicles per year, which were exported to 70 countries.
  • 2010: In Paris, the first Škoda electric vehicle was introduced: the concept Octavia Green E Line.
  • 2012: Škoda celebrates 14 million vehicles produced. Following extensive reconstruction, the Škoda Museum in Mladá Boleslav reopens.
  • 2014: Škoda Auto produced and sold for the first time in its history 1 million vehicles in a single calendar year.
  • 2018: Škoda Auto produced its millionth SUV. The world premiere of a new model – the Škoda Scala – took place.
  • 2019: The brand introduced its first electrified models, the Škoda Citigoe iV and Škoda Superb iV. Škoda Auto delivered 1.24 million vehicles to customers around the world.
  • 2021: A year full of anniversaries. Škoda celebrated its 30-year affiliation with the Volkswagen Group.
