1989:

  • Unilever is a major perfume and cosmetics manufacturer with the purchase of Calvin Klein, Inc., Faberge Inc. and Elizabeth Arden.
  • The acquisition of three companies, including Fabergé Inc., makes the company a major player in the world perfume and cosmetics industry.

By 1992: Unilever consisted of about 500 companies doing business in 75 different countries.

1993: Unilever acquires Breyers from Kraft, making the company the largest ice cream maker in the United States.

1998:

  • Unilever announced it would phase out about 1,200 of its brands to focus on about 400 strong regional or global brands that accounted for nearly 90% of 1998 sales.
  • The company's $20 billion acquisition of New Jersey-based Bestfoods in 2000 catapulted Unilever into one of the world's largest food companies.

2002: Unilever has worldwide sales of approximately €48,760 million.

By 2012: Unilever has 14 brands, each with sales of more than 1 billion Euro per year.

2018: Unilever launches its own brand - Love Beauty and Planet.

2021:

  • Unilever opens a new era of beauty. Unilever set up a new independent beauty business, Elida Beauty in April.
  • Unilever pioneered innovation with the world's first laundry capsule created by industrial carbon emissions.
  • Unilever launches the world's first paper-based laundry detergent bottle.
