(worldkings.org) Ricola Ltd. is a Swiss manufacturer of cough drops and breath mints with the head office located in Laufen, Basel-Country, Switzerland.

Ricola is a family business owned by the Richterich family, however since 2019 running the company has been in the hands of non-family owned executives.

 

 

The company currently exports products to 45 countries in Europe, Asia and North America. The company's products include natural botanicals and cough drops grown exclusively on Swiss land without using pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides.

 

The company's milestones:

- In 1930: Baker and confectioner Emil Wilhelm Richterich and Daniel Ruoss Sr. established Confiseriefabrik Richterich & Co. Laufen after the purchase of a small bakery in Laufen.

- In 1940: Richterich created Ricola's Swiss Herbal Sweet – the top herbal candy incorporating a blend of 13 herbs.

 

 

- In 1948: Emil Richterich decided to change the company name to Ricola.

- In 1950s: Ricola's Swiss Herbal Sweet became appreciated for its ability to be dissolved in boiling water, creating an aromatic herbal tea or tisane.

 

 

- In 1962: Ricola was one of the first Swiss companies to export candy.

- In 1976: After extensive research on sugar-free confectionery, Ricola launched Switzerland’s first chewable sugarless herbal sweet.

- In 1980s: Ricola started to advertise its products on television.

 

 

- In 1988: The company started packing their products in small boxes.

- In 2014: Built using clay and earth sourced from the Laufen valley, the Ricola Herb Center opened and serves as the central facility for processing and storing herbs.

- In 2021: Logo and packaging design have been completely redesigned and refreshed.
