On Sunday, Samsung proudly shared on its online Newsroom the appearance of its invention on the cover of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (UOG), the official journal of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG). The 5D Heart Color technology is the creation of Samsung Medison, an affiliate of Samsung Electronics that has been manufacturing diagnostic ultrasound systems since 1985.
Samsung’s 5D Heart Color is a fetal echocardiography technology designed for precise diagnosis of congenital heart disease. It is capable of providing nine different fetal echocardiography views, presenting vital information on various cardiac structures and functions. Some of the views it provides are the aortic arch view, the three vessels and trachea view, left and right ventricular outflow tract views and the four-chamber view, among others.
Samsung says its medical invention is easy to use, for it offers standardized and simplified examination of the fetal heart. It is also not that dependent on the operator. Furthermore, the 5D Heart Color really captures the anatomy and hemodynamic characteristics of congenital heart disease, making it a good diagnostic tool for such cases.
The 5D Heart Color technology isn’t the first creation of Samsung that was featured on the cover of an academic journal. Last year, the company’s Crystal Vue diagnostic ultrasound imaging technology was chosen to grace the cover of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AJOG). The said technology was also featured in both the March 2016 and April 2017 issues of UOG. Crystal Vue is described to be an advanced 3D volume rendering technology that provides detailed information on both internal and external structures of the uterus and fetus.
Given these inventions, Samsung appears to be eager in making more technological advancements that could assist medical professionals in the women’s health industry. This is, of course, the same message that Insuk Song expressed in July when he said, “We are focusing on offering clinical value as the industry’s leading diagnostic solution provider.”
