(WorldKings) Despite only travelling 80 yards, because it was thrown at zero gravity while the station orbited the Earth at 17,500 miles an hour, the ball actually travelled 564,664 yards.

An American astronaut has been credited with throwing the longest pass ever after he lobbed a football on board the International Space Station.

Despite only travelling 80 yards, because it was thrown at zero gravity while the station orbited the Earth at 17,500 miles an hour, the ball actually travelled 564,664 yards.

The football moved at 8,800 yards a second relative to someone standing on Earth.

Tim Kopra was playing around with the American football when he was up in space, although it was unclear when the footage was recorded as he landed back on Earth in June.

But NASA released the video over the weekend ahead of the American Super Bowl, which was won by the New England Patriots after an amazing comeback.
