The Shuikousi Overpass, with a length of 300 meters, was completed in May 1997. Two years later, affordable residential buildings and resettlement homes were constructed directly below, making it appear as if the buildings were supporting the bridge.
Impact on daily life
Residents in the apartment buildings beneath the Shuikousi Overpass can hear the sound of cars driving directly above them every day. In the closest apartments, the bridge is only a few meters away from the living rooms of the houses.

Residents here say they have become accustomed to the noise of traffic and the vibrations caused by the passing vehicles above, even though additional soundproofing glass or walls have been installed, the sounds of horns and engine noises still penetrate the daily living environment.

However, to minimize noise pollution and ensure the health of the residents, the local government has prohibited trucks from crossing the bridge at night. In addition, the major pollutants and health concerns the government is addressing are road dust and exhaust emissions from passing vehicles.
