Based on the world record nomination from America Records Institute (AMRI) and Decision No.WK/USA.INDIA/983/2023/No.439, World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared Decentraland as "The platform hosted the world's first virtual fashion week" on March 28th, 2023.

Decentraland was created by Argentinians Ari Meilich and Esteban Ordano, and has been in development since 2015. When it launched in 2017, parcels of digital land sold for about $20, and mana tokens sold for $0.02. The game's first map, Genesis City, was made up of 90,601 parcels of land.

From March 24 to March 27, Decentraland hosted the world's first Metaverse Fashion Week, featuring over 60 digital and luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Elie Saab, Nicholas Kirkwood, Perry Ellis, Imitation of Christ, and Estée Lauder. Digital fashion shows are held on 3 virtual runways.

In addition to fashion shows, Metaverse Fashion Week also features events such as parties, interactive experiences, and countless shopping experiences across multiple digital storefronts which showcased wearable looks on avatars, NFTs, artworks and more.

Luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana held the first after-show party, while Hogan + Exclusible held a soiree on the next day.
