05-06-2021

(WorldKings.org) The Dubai Tram is a tramway located in Al Sufouh, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Opened in 2014 by using platform screen doors at the stations, World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared Dubai Tram as " World’s first tram network to use platform screen doors".

Based on the world record nomination from Asia Records Institute (ASRI)  and Decision No. WK/USA.INDIA/703/2021/No.159, World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared Dubai Tram is the world’s first tram network to use platform screen doors on June 5, 2021.

The Dubai Tram is a tramway located in Al Sufouh, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It runs for 14.5 kilometers (9.0 mi) along Al Sufouh Road from Dubai Marina to the Palm Jumeirah and Al Sufouh.

The tram connects with the Jumeirah Lakes Towers and DAMAC Properties stations of the Dubai Metro's Red Line, and two more stations are expected to connect with the tram in the future. The Dubai Tram is also connected with the monorail of the Palm Jumeirah at the entrance of the Palm from Sufouh Road.

The Dubai Tram is the fourth tramway project in the world, after the Bordeaux tramway in 2003 and the Reims and Angers tramways in 2011, to be powered by ground-based electric supply system.

The Dubai Tram is the world’s first tram network to use platform screen doors at the stations in 2014. It began operation in November 11, 2014. Platform screen doors (PSDs), also known as platform edge doors (PEDs), are used at some train or subway stations to separate the platform from trains, as well as on some Bus rapid transit systems.

They are primarily used for passenger safety. They are a relatively new addition to many metro systems around the world, some having been retrofitted to established systems. They are widely used in newer Asian and European metro systems.
