30-10-2025

(worldkings.org) FENIX Museum of Migration opened on May 16, 2025, in a restored historic warehouse that was once a major hub for the Holland-America Line, from which millions of emigrants departed for America. It is Europe’s first museum dedicated to the theme of migration. On October 30, 2025, the World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared FENIX Museum of Migration as “The world’s first museum dedicated to the theme of migration.”

Based on the world record nomination from the Europe Records Institute (EURI) and Decision No. WK/USA.INDIA/1383/2025/No.837, World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared FENIX Museum of Migration as the world’s first museum dedicated to the theme of migration.

Opened on 16 May 2025, the FENIX Museum of Migration is a museum dedicated to human migration, located within the former Fenix warehouse in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In May 2025, the museum welcomed its 100,000th visitor, marking over 100,000 visits in the first two months of its opening.

At Fenix, you’ll experience migration through the eyes of international artists like Shilpa Gupta, Steve McQueen, Rineke Dijkstra, and Kimsooja. Alternatively, etc.

The museum’s inaugural exhibitions are ‘All Directions: Art That Moves You’, which will feature works by Francis Alÿs, Cornelia Parker and Do Ho Suh, and ‘The Family of Migrants,’ an exhibition inspired by Edward Steichen’s Family of Man at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which will present 194 photographs on the subject of migration, and in “The Suitcase Labyrinth,” you’ll hear personal stories from the travelers themselves. Plein is a new covered city square inside the building, where Fenix creates the programming in collaboration with the people of Rotterdam.

Designed by MAD Architects of Beijing as their first European commission, the innovative museum features a striking centerpiece called The Tornado, a 30-meter-tall spiraling structure made of polished stainless steel. It symbolises turbulent migrant journeys and offers panoramic views of Rotterdam and the River Maas.
