Based on the world record nomination from Asia Records Institute (ASRI) and Decision No. WK/USA.INDIA/1380/2025/No.834, World Records Union (WorldKings) officially declared Guazhou dual-tower solar thermal plant as the world's first dual-tower concentrated solar power plant.
The Guazhou Dual-Tower Solar Thermal Plant in Gansu, China, is the world's first dual-tower Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) facility, with a capacity of 100 MW.This groundbreaking design features two 200-meter-tall towers and approximately 27,000 mirrors. The innovation lies in the synchronized operation of the towers: one captures the morning sun, and the other takes the afternoon sun. This system boosts energy efficiency by about 25% compared to traditional single-tower plants.

The plant utilizes molten salt technology to store thermal energy at temperatures up to 57 °C. This allows the facility to generate stable, dispatchable electricity 24/7, effectively bridging the intermittency gap inherent in other solar and wind power sources. The project is a key part of China's clean energy base and is projected to power around half a million households annually.
