Yevgeny Smirnov danced from the ninth grade of school and started his career in breakdancing, and complemented this skill by doing snowboarding.

Yevgeny, or Eugene in English, was involved in an accident in 2012 when his moped was hit by a car. Due to medical complications sustained by an injury to his knee, the leg developed gangrene and had to be amputated above the knee.

To his friends, he is called Rzhziy (Red-haired in Russian) and he did not give up on his dancing ambitions.

Three years later he auditioned for the TV Show “Dances”. He was noticed by Maxim Fadeyev, a talented producer and composer and was invited to take part in a video for a song performed by a well-known singer in Ukraine. The video was shot in the former Lenin Library in Moscow, one of the largest in Europe, which houses up to 46 million books.

The same year he set up a special dance school for disabled people and healthy people alike and called it “Ryhziy Dance” and is a great environment for able-bodied and disabled dancers to make friends alike and the message he has articulated is that nothing is impossible.

He also appeared on Russia’s version of So You Think You Can Dance in 2015 inspiring the world, performing a flawless routine with only one leg, with his partner: The grace and strength he exhibited in his appearance on the talent show served as an incredible example of the same qualities that obviously lie within his character.
