WORLDKINGS - Worldkings News - Europe Records Institute (EURI) – Chayvo O-14: World’s longest oil well

27-06-2022

(WorldKings.org) Well O-14 was drilled from the Orlan drilling platform towards the south-eastern point of Chayvo field, which lies to the northeast of Russia's Sakhalin Island. The well has a record breaking measured depth of 13,500 m and a horizontal reach of 12,033 m.

The Sakhalin-I project, a sister project to Sakhalin-II, is a consortium for production of oil and gas on Sakhalin Island and immediately offshore. It operates three fields in the Okhotsk Sea: Chayvo, Odoptu and Arkutun-Dagi.

The Sakhalin-1 project is situated at north-eastern shelf of the Sakhalin Island. Ultimate recoverable reserves of the project are 236 million tons of oil and 487 billion cubic meters of gas.

Since 2003, when the first Sakhalin-1 well was drilled, six of the world's 10 record-setting extended reach drilling wells have been drilled at the fields of the project, using the Yastreb rig. It has set multiple industry records for length, rate of penetration and directional drilling.

In April 2014, the drilling team drilled and completed the Z-40 well; this well set a new record with a measured depth of 13,000 m and a horizontal reach of 12,130 m.
