(AURI) Journey to promote records in Oceania (P.462) NSPC: as Oceania’s oldest continuously operating skydiving club

26-05-2026

(Worldkings.org) Established around 1960, the club is widely regarded as Oceania’s oldest continuously operating skydiving club.

NSPC, short for Newcastle Sport Parachute Club, is a historic skydiving organization based in Elderslie in New South Wales, Australia. Over more than six decades, it has played an important role in the development of recreational and competitive parachuting in Australia, helping generations of skydivers train, compete, and build a strong aviation sports community.

Unlike many modern commercial skydiving operators that focus mainly on tandem tourism experiences, NSPC operates as a member-based sporting club. It provides training programs for beginners, including Accelerated Freefall (AFF) courses, while also supporting experienced jumpers involved in formation skydiving, canopy piloting, and national competitions. The club has built a reputation for its welcoming culture and long-standing commitment to safe sport parachuting practices.

NSPC is also known for organizing major skydiving events and competitions. One of its best-known traditions is the “Black Death” 4-Way Scrambles competition, an annual event that has been running for decades and attracts participants from across Australia. Through events like these, the club has contributed significantly to maintaining and growing Australia’s skydiving culture.

Because of its long uninterrupted history, NSPC is frequently recognized as an important landmark in Oceania’s aviation and adventure sports history. Its continued operation reflects the enduring popularity of sport parachuting in Australia and the dedication of the club’s members and volunteers who have kept the organization active for generations.
