31-10-2023

(WorldKings.org) On October 27, 2023, Garuda Indonesia conducted the world's first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel.

Garuda Indonesia is the flag carrier of Indonesia, headquartered at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. It is one of the oldest and largest airlines in Southeast Asia, and operates services to over 100 destinations in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas.

On October 27, 2023, Garuda Indonesia conducted the world's first commercial flight using palm oil-blended jet fuel. The flight, which carried more than 100 passengers, operated from Jakarta to Surakarta city using a Boeing 737-800NG aircraft.

The palm oil-blended jet fuel used on the flight was produced by Indonesian state energy firm PT Pertamina. The fuel is a mixture of conventional jet fuel and palm oil-derived hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA).

Garuda Indonesia plans to gradually increase the use of palm oil-blended jet fuel on its flights. The company aims to use a blend of 5% palm oil-blended jet fuel by 2025.

The use of palm oil-blended jet fuel by Garuda Indonesia is a significant development in the aviation industry. It demonstrates that palm oil can be used to produce a sustainable and affordable alternative to conventional jet fuel. This could help to reduce the environmental impact of the aviation industry and make air travel more affordable for people around the world.
