02-05-2023

(worldkings.org) On May 2nd 2023, at the Southern Traditional Cake Festival (Can Tho city, Vietnam), traditional cakes in Can Tho set an Asian Record value (according to the Asian Records Criterion for Cuisine and Specialty).

Can Tho, a city directly under the central government of Vietnam, is evaluated as a familiar and appealing destination by many local and international visitors thanks to its poetic and lyrical scenery. The Can Tho cuisine is well-known for hundreds of colorful, exquisite, and tasty traditional cakes that preserve the traditional cultural value of this region.

Can Tho’s traditional cakes have a long-established history and are made from natural ingredients such as rice, sticky rice, stem, coconut milk, etc., with numerous cooking recipes ranging from sweet cakes to savory cakes, filled to unfilled, wrapped in leaves or not, and available in a variety of round, flat, square, tower, and cylinder shapes, among others.

The bulk of traditional cakes are wrapped in fresh banana leaves, coconut leaves, and dong leaves, or are fashioned on jackfruit leaves, bamboo leaves, and so on. Rice flour and milled glutinous flour are combined to make these cakes, which are then crushed, packed, pressed, shaped, and baked or steamed. Each cake retains its own flavor, color, and subtlety.

Can Tho’s traditional cakes are extremely diverse, including some types such as: Vietnamese seafood pancake, steamed palm sugar rice cake, coconut-flavored sponge cake, small glutinous pyramid shape cake, husband and wife cake, Steamed banana cake, Pandan Vietnamese Honeycomb Cake, Jackfruit leaf cake, Layers sticky rice with sweet mung bean, Steamed tapioca flour cake, Crunchy sweet waffle with coriander, Vietnamese cendol,..

The annual Southern Traditional Cake Festival, one of the most important national cultural events in Can Tho city, Vietnam, introduces and promotes a diverse variety of distinctive traditional specialties of Can Tho in particular and Vietnam's Southwest area in general. This is also a special opportunity for visitors to learn and gain more knowledge about the regional culinary culture through the preservation and promotion of hundreds of traditional cakes. Since then, Vietnamese have increased production and developed innumerable one-of-a-kind cakes that capture the unique beauty of the southern region.

With the theme of “Preserving and promoting cultural values of Southern traditional cakes”, the festival features more than 300 booths of 22 cities and provinces from across Vietnam. More than 100 different kinds of traditional cakes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also mouth-watering are being offered to visitors at this event.
