Mongolia Waives Visa for Vietnamese Visitors

07-03-2024

(worldkings.org) According to an announcement from the Mongolian government website, starting from March 7th, Vietnamese visitors staying in Mongolia for up to 30 days will not need to apply for a visa. This is the latest move by the Mongolian government to attract tourists from Vietnam.

Previously, Vietnamese visitors to Mongolia had to apply for a visa (processing time 5-7 working days) or an e-visa (3 days). The visa fee is $25 USD plus additional charges. Vietnamese citizens can apply for an e-visa for three purposes: tourism, transit, and participation in events.

Zolo Zolkhuu, a local tour guide specializing in Vietnamese tourists, said that in reality, obtaining a Mongolian visa is not difficult, but many Vietnamese tourists are hesitant to research the visa application process, so they prefer countries that do not require a visa. "This move will attract more Vietnamese tourists here," Zolo said.

According to Zolo, in 2023, Mongolian travel agencies welcomed about 1,300 Vietnamese tourists. Zolo's company served as guides for 30% of these Vietnamese tourists. The male guide said that the number of Vietnamese tourists to Mongolia in winter has been gradually increasing in recent years.

Ha Thu, 28, expressed a strong desire to visit the vast steppes of Mongolia but has not had the opportunity yet. "I will travel there in the summer this year," Thu said after learning about the visa waiver.

With this visa waiver, Mongolia promises to become an attractive destination for Vietnamese tourists in the near future.
