His achievement includes visits to all 193 member states of the United Nations, the two UN observer states—the Vatican and Palestine—as well as Taiwan and Kosovo. The accomplishment represents a remarkable milestone for an Indonesian traveler and demonstrates the possibility of undertaking an extensive global journey using an Indonesian passport.

For Timothy, travel is far more than collecting destinations. He views every journey as an opportunity to understand people through direct interaction with local communities, believing that firsthand experiences provide perspectives that cannot be gained solely from reports, statistics, or published data.
Throughout his travels, Timothy encountered many realities that differed from common public perceptions. One example was his visit to Iraq, where he experienced a society that he found to be warmer and more welcoming than the conflict-driven image often portrayed in the media. The experience reinforced his belief that firsthand observation is an essential part of verifying information before drawing conclusions about a place or its people.
Reflecting on his visits to 197 countries and territories, Timothy also observed that a country's level of economic prosperity does not always correspond to the happiness of its people. In recognition of completing journeys to 193 UN member states, two UN observer states, together with Taiwan and Kosovo, MURI (Indonesian World Records Museum) officially honored Timothy Astandu as the Indonesian who has visited the most sovereign states, celebrating a remarkable achievement in global exploration and cross-cultural understanding.
