At just 19 years old, Raniya Tharuvara has achieved a notable milestone in Arabic calligraphy with an artwork combining a large physical format and an extensive religious theme. Born on July 24, 2006, the young artist from Malappuram, Kerala, created an Arabic calligraphy artwork depicting all 99 names of Allah.

The work measures 180 cm x 130 cm, giving it an overall surface area of approximately 2.34 m². It was produced on canvas using black ink and pencil, with Arabic calligraphy serving as the central artistic element.

According to the India Book of Records, Raniya completed the achievement at the age of 19 years, 11 months and 23 days. The record was confirmed on July 17, 2026, recognizing her achievement for creating the largest Arabic calligraphy artwork depicting all the names of Allah made by a teen. The record was subsequently featured by the India Book of Records in its Culture & Creativity category on August 26, 2026.

The artwork stands out not only because of its dimensions but also because of the number of names incorporated into a single composition. Bringing all 99 names together in a large-scale calligraphic work requires careful attention to lettering, spacing and overall arrangement. The use of canvas provides a broad surface on which the individual calligraphic elements can be organized into a unified artwork.

Arabic calligraphy has a long-standing place within Islamic artistic traditions, where the written word can become the principal visual element of an artwork. In Raniya’s record-setting piece, the focus is placed on the form and arrangement of Arabic script rather than figurative imagery.
