A six-day road journey through northern India has earned B. S. Krishna a distinctive place in the India Book of Records. The Bengaluru resident from Karnataka completed a 1,261-kilometre car journey from Chandigarh to Umling La, travelling through Jammu, Sonmarg, Leh and Hanle along the way.

The journey commenced in Chandigarh on July 10, 2026, and concluded at Umling La on July 15, 2026. Covering a total distance of 1,261 kilometres, the trip was recognized as the longest car journey to Umling La by a specially abled individual. The India Book of Records (IBR) confirmed the achievement on July 24, 2026.

A defining aspect of the record was Krishna’s physical condition. He has a 75% permanent locomotor disability in his left lower limb. Completing a long-distance road journey under these circumstances added a significant personal dimension to the achievement, particularly given the varying conditions encountered along the route.

From Chandigarh, the journey proceeded through Jammu and Sonmarg before reaching Leh and then Hanle. The route ultimately led to Umling La, bringing the six-day journey to its conclusion on July 15. The 1,261-kilometre distance and the number of destinations along the route underline the scale of the expedition.

Umling La is located in the Ladakh region, an area known for its high-altitude mountain landscape. For Krishna, reaching the destination involved completing the entire road journey by car despite his permanent mobility disability.

The record therefore focuses not simply on distance, but on the circumstances under which the journey was completed. Krishna’s attempt demonstrated determination, endurance and resilience in confronting physical challenges while undertaking a demanding long-distance road trip.

His journey also illustrates how a personal physical limitation did not prevent him from pursuing an ambitious travel goal. Over six days, he completed the route from Chandigarh to Umling La, passing through Jammu, Sonmarg, Leh and Hanle before reaching the destination.

The journey began on July 10 and ended on July 15, 2026. Nine days later, on July 24, the India Book of Records officially confirmed the achievement.
