Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (The EMNLP) is an annual conference organized by SIGDAT, a special interest group within the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) that prioritizes linguistic data. 

Along with the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), it is one of the two primary high impact conferences for natural language processing research. It was started in 1996, based on an earlier conference series called Workshop on Very Large Corpora (WVLC).

As one of the top computer sciences conferences focused on natural language processing, EMNLP invites submissions of long and short papers on original research in empirical methods for NLP covering a broad range of technical topics, including computational science and questions answering. 

As of 2021, according to Microsoft Academic, EMNLP is the 14th most cited conference in computer science, with a citation count of 332,738.
