DATALAND is a groundbreaking cultural institution in downtown Los Angeles that is dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence-based art. Founded by media artist Refik Anadol and producer Efsun Erkılıç, it is described as the world's first Museum of AI Arts, created to explore how human creativity and machine intelligence can work together to produce new forms of artistic expression. The museum occupies approximately 25,000 square feet of exhibition space within The Grand LA, the Frank Gehry-designed development in the city's Grand Avenue Cultural District.

Unlike traditional museums that display static paintings or sculptures, DATALAND was conceived as a "living museum" where artworks continuously evolve through data, artificial intelligence, and visitor interaction. Its exhibitions combine immersive projections, soundscapes, environmental effects, and machine-learning systems to create experiences that change over time. Its inaugural exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, runs from 20 June 2026 through 31 January 2027. The exhibition uses Refik Anadol Studio's Large Nature Model, an AI system trained on extensive nature datasets gathered through partnerships with institutions such as the Smithsonian, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the Natural History Museum in London. Through five immersive galleries, visitors experience AI-generated interpretations of rainforest ecosystems, combining visual, auditory, and environmental elements.

The museum's opening is significant because it marks one of the first major attempts to establish a permanent institution devoted exclusively to AI-generated and AI-assisted art. While museums around the world have hosted AI art exhibitions before, DATALAND is widely promoted as the first museum built specifically for AI arts as its primary mission and focus.
