Kristall Galerie is a small museum worth a visit for sure if you're into seeing the amazingness that lies beneath the ground in Namibia. The museum is located in corner of Tobias Hainyeko and Theo-Ben Gurirab Avenue, Swakopmund, Namibia. It is home to the world’s largest quartz crystal cluster on display.
The Kristall Galerie is the result of a man (Johannes Adolf Kleynhans) of passion, enthusiasm and vision. Kristall Galerie was founded in 1998, and has been designed for you to share in and discover some of the earth’s most beautiful masterpeices. It started off as a hobby and turned out to be a very popular spot in Swakopmund.
The world's largest quartz cluster was discovered in 1985 at the bottom of a 45 metre deep cave in the Otjua mine near Karibib in Namibia. It weighs 14,100 kg and took three years to excavate and remove.
Quartz is one of the most common minerals found in the Earth's crust. If pure, quartz forms colourless, transparent and very hard crystals with a glass-like lustre. A significant component of many igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, this natural form of silicon dioxide is found in an impressive range of varieties and colours.
