Electric OMIBUS is widely recognized as Africa’s first fully electric passenger ferry developed for commercial operations, launched in Nigeria as part of a broader push toward sustainable water transport.

The ferry was developed by Caverton Marine Limited, a subsidiary of Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc, in collaboration with electric propulsion technology provider ExploMar. Designed specifically for urban inland waterways such as the Lagos Lagoon, the Electric OMIBUS represents a significant technological milestone not only for Nigeria but for the African maritime sector as a whole.

Unlike conventional ferries that rely on diesel engines, the Electric OMIBUS operates entirely on battery-powered electric propulsion.
