Magwa Enterprise Tea (South Africa) is a large tea-growing and processing enterprise located on the Wild Coast of South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, near Lusikisiki and Port St Johns. It is best known for operating the historic Magwa Tea Estate, together with the nearby Majola Tea Estate, in an area with a humid coastal climate and fertile soils well suited to tea cultivation. Tea production here dates back to the 1960s, making Magwa one of the oldest and most established tea operations in the country.

In terms of scale, Magwa Enterprise Tea manages just over 2,000 hectares of planted tea fields, combining roughly 1,700 hectares at Magwa and about 380 hectares at Majola. Because of this size, the operation is widely described as the largest tea estate in South Africa and is often cited as one of the largest tea estates in Africa, as well as the largest commercial tea estate in the Southern Hemisphere. The estates are primarily dedicated to the production of black tea, which is processed on site before being sold for both domestic consumption and export.
Beyond its agricultural footprint, Magwa Enterprise Tea plays an important social and economic role in the Eastern Cape. The estate was originally developed as a rural employment project and remains a major source of jobs in a region with limited industrial activity. It is structured as a state-linked enterprise, with an emphasis not only on tea production but also on community development, skills training, and long-term sustainability.
