(AFRI) Journey to promote Records in Africa (P.426) Redberry Farm: Largest permanent hedge maze in Africa

07-02-2026

(worldkings.org) Redberry Farm Hedge Maze has about 10 km of winding pathways created from over 30000 densely planted hedges designed to challenge and entertain visitors.

Redberry Farm Hedge Maze is a giant living maze made of tall hedge plants at Redberry Farm — a family-friendly strawberry farm and tourist attraction in George, Western Cape, South Africa. It’s famous for being the largest permanent hedge maze in the Southern Hemisphere, with about 10 km of winding pathways created from over 30 000 densely planted hedges designed to challenge and entertain visitors.

Inside the maze, you don’t just find the exit — there are seven hidden “strawberry stations” where visitors try to locate and collect stamps as part of the adventure. The maze also includes unique features like a 25-metre underground tunnel and a giant strawberry lookout point at its centre, making the experience both playful and memorable.

It’s designed to be a fun activity for families and groups, and people typically spend 45 minutes to an hour or more trying to complete it. There’s even a special night-time event called the Moonlight Maze, where visitors enter with head torches for a different maze-exploration experience after dark.

The maze sits among other attractions at Redberry Farm, such as strawberry picking, mini train rides, pony rides, pedal carts, bumper boats, and cafés, making it a full day of outdoor fun.
