AA Rano or A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited is a Nigerian downstream petroleum marketing company founded by Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano and headquartered in Kano. Over the past two decades, the company has expanded from a regional fuel supplier into one of Nigeria’s major indigenous oil-marketing firms, operating a large nationwide network of fuel retail stations alongside logistics, storage, and LPG infrastructure. AA Rano is generally regarded as one of the fastest-growing Nigerian-owned players in the downstream oil and gas sector.

In early 2026, AA Rano announced plans to launch Africa’s first fully automated, unmanned fuel stations, positioning the company as a technological pioneer in fuel retail on the continent. These stations are designed to operate 24 hours a day without on-site attendants, allowing motorists to refuel independently using automated pumps. Customers pay through digital and contactless payment systems, while fuel dispensing, pricing, and volume control are handled entirely by software-driven systems rather than manual operation.

The unmanned stations rely on real-time remote monitoring and automation technology, enabling centralized oversight of fuel levels, pump performance, transactions, and security. According to the company, the system is intended to reduce fuel theft, eliminate under-dispensing, improve operational efficiency, and increase transparency for consumers—persistent challenges in many African fuel retail markets. The model also lowers staffing costs and enables round-the-clock operation, even in locations where conventional stations struggle with manpower or security constraints.

This initiative is being rolled out in partnership with a Nigerian energy-technology provider that specializes in digital solutions for the downstream oil and gas industry. If implemented at scale as announced, AA Rano’s project would mark the first commercial deployment of fully automated, unmanned fuel stations in Africa, setting a precedent for how fuel retailing could evolve across the continent.
