Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II is a major onshore wind-power project located in the Gulf of El Zayt area on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. It was developed as part of Egypt’s push to expand large-scale renewable energy and to take advantage of the region’s strong and consistent wind resources. Construction of the project began in March 2023.

The wind farm is owned and operated by Red Sea Wind Energy S.A.E., a consortium made up of ENGIE, Orascom Construction, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Eurus Energy Holdings. Together, these partners financed and built one of the most advanced wind-energy facilities in Africa. The project cost is reported to be around 790 million USD, funded with support from several international financial institutions.

It is equipped with 104 wind turbines in total — 84 units rated at 6 megawatts each and 20 large units rated at 7.5 megawatts each, which are among the highest-capacity onshore wind turbines currently in use worldwide.

The project began connecting turbines to the grid in phases during late 2024 and early 2025, and it reached full commercial operation on 30 June 2025. All electricity generated is supplied to the national grid under a long-term, 25-year power-purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

In terms of impact, the wind farm is capable of supplying clean electricity for roughly 1.1 million households in Egypt. It is also expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 1.45 million tonnes, significantly supporting Egypt’s national climate and clean-energy goals. When combined with the neighboring Gulf of Suez Wind Farm I, which has a capacity of 262.5 megawatts, the total wind-generation capacity in the Gulf of El Zayt region exceeds 900 megawatts.
