The Rabat Ice Hockey Arena, located in the Yacoub El Mansour district of Rabat, Morocco, is a newly built indoor sports facility that officially opened in January 2026. It is centered around an Olympic-size ice rink and is designed as a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting ice hockey, figure skating, public skating sessions, and even large-scale events such as concerts. The project represents a significant step in diversifying Morocco’s sports infrastructure beyond traditional disciplines.

What makes the arena particularly notable is its scale and technical standard within the African context. The ice surface measures approximately 1,738 square meters, meeting international Olympic specifications, while the overall complex spans more than 16,000 square meters. Because ice sports facilities are extremely rare across the continent, this venue is widely regarded as the largest and most advanced ice hockey arena in Africa.
The arena was developed with an investment of about 246 million Moroccan dirhams (roughly 25 million USD), reflecting a strategic effort to introduce and grow ice sports in Morocco and the wider region. It is expected to support athlete development, host international competitions such as International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) events, and attract sports tourism. In practical terms, the Rabat Ice Hockey Arena serves as both a pioneering facility and a foundation for establishing a presence for ice hockey in a region where the sport has historically had very limited infrastructure.
