Top 100 CEOs In The World - P10. Mark Zuckerberg

( Mark Zuckerberg is co-founder and CEO of the social-networking website Facebook, as well as one of the world's youngest billionaires.

Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, into a comfortable, well-educated family. He was raised in the nearby village of Dobbs Ferry.

Zuckerberg developed an interest in computers at an early age; when he was about 12, he used Atari BASIC to create a messaging program he named "Zucknet." His father used the program in his dental office, so that the receptionist could inform him of a new patient without yelling across the room. The family also used Zucknet to communicate within the house.

Soon after Zuckerberg started at Harvard University in 2002, he earned a reputation as a skilled developer. He started "The Facebook" with several friends out of his dorm room and dropped out of school after his sophomore year to focus on it full-time.

That year Zuckerberg dropped out of college and moved the company to Palo Alto, California. By the end of 2004, Facebook had 1 million users.

After launching the website from his Harvard University dormitory room on February 4, 2004, Facebook expanded rapidly, reaching one billion users by 2012. As of early 2017, Facebook had 2.2 billion active users (that had logged in within 30 days).

Since 2010, Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 wealthiest and most influential people in the world as a part of its Person of the Year award, as well as 10th on Forbes list of The World’s Most Powerful People in December 2016.

Zuckerberg is among the billionaires who have promised to donate as much as 99% of their wealth—or, in his case, around $52.1 billion.
